Week Twelve is on the way and fall semester is drawing to a close. Thank you moms for helping to make next week a fun and memorable time by participating in the review game, "Are You Smarter Than a Masters Student?" You are very brave and love your children dearly, I appreciate all of your support so much. I hope some great memories will be made. In addition to the game, I am planning to bring hot chocolate and popcorn for refreshments on Tuesday.
This is the schedule I am planning:
9:30-10:30 Tin Whistle and New Grammar
10:30-11:30 Refreshments and Review Game
11:30-12:00 Science
RULES OF THE GAME:
Each participating mom will team up with their son or daughter as contestants in the game. The remaining students will be in the class of expert master students. The parent/student team will be answering questions together.GAME SETUP:Each parent/student team will decide which class level and subject questions they would like to be asked by placing a check mark in the appropriate box of the Game/Score sheet(this will be provided at the start of the game).
There are five Class Level options : ABC-Abecedarian, AP- Apprentice, J1 - Journeymen One, J2 -Journeymen Two, and M-Masters
There are five Subject options: History (includes history sentences and a few timeline questions), Geography, English/Latin, Science, Math
Together you will choose 2 questions from each grade level and 2 from each subject category, 10 questions total. In order for you to be asked the Million Dollar Question the mom/student team will need to answer 10 questions correctly.
HOW TO PLAY:
1. The contestant team tells the tutor which of the checked off subject/class level questions on the Game/Score sheet they want to answer. For example, the contestant could ask for Journeymen 1 Math.
2. Secondly, the tutor asks the question.
The contestant can do one of the following:
A. ANSWER THE QUESTION CORRECTLY- If the answer is correct, then draw a circle around the question box on the Game/Score sheet and fill in the first circle for the $1,000 money level. If the answer is incorrect the contestant leaves the game.
B. HELP - If the contestant team does not know the correct answer, they have one opportunity to Peek and one opportunity to Copy a Masters Student answer, from the students in the expert Masters class. In the game the contestant team can only use these 2 helps 1 time each.
PEEK- Roll the die and peek at that student's answer. The contestant team can choose to use that answer or not. If you use their answer and it is correct you mark your Game/Score sheet and move on to the next money level. If the answer is incorrect the contestant team is out of the game.
COPY- Get help by asking to copy one of the Masters students answers. Roll the die and the tutor will read their answer. If it is correct you mark your Game/Score sheet and move on to the next money level. If incorrect, you leave the game.
3. After 10 questions are answered correctly, get ready for the Million Dollar Question. The tutor will select the Million Dollar Question and give the Masters level subject area. The contestant team can choose to go for it or drop out! If the question is answered correctly the contestant wins! If you decide to drop out you are still a winner for answering 10 questions correctly. All of the correctly answered questions will be rewarded by Massive Memory Marbles(for the first 5 correct answers) and Mega Memory Marbles(for the next 5 correct answers).
In an effort to maximize playing time all moms please go over the rules of the game with your student. Everyone will participate so it will help to know how the game is played. This is very similar to the television game show, I adapted the rules from the board game version.
I hope this will be a fun game for everyone and most importantly give some great review in all of the subjects. If the game goes too quickly and the contestants are eliminated in short order I may ask the moms to allow one of the students in the expert masters class to switch with your child and let them have a chance to play on a contestant/mom team. This is only if you are willing to do this, just let me know on Tuesday. I am trying to think of all of the possible scenarios. I really doubt the game will end too quickly after the impressive memory recitation I saw on Tuesday, these students are ready for just about anything and it is obvious you have all been drilling often! Thank you and have a great week!
Blessings,
Mrs. Gaines
